Every year Women in IT will award a number of bursaries worth R20 000 each to women who are studying in the IT field.

For the 2007 period, Agneatha Davids and Mokateko Portia Mathimbi are the first two recipients of a WIIT bursary, each worth R20 000, which has enabled them to complete their IT studies. Agneatha & Portia will both be entering the workplace in 2007 and we wish them the best of luck in their careers.

The forum invites female students who meet the following criteria to submit motivations from 30th of June 2007and before 30th November 2007:


a female student studying in the IT field;
a student who is proceeding to final-year studies in 2008;
an individual identified as someone who is determined to succeed;
an individual who is financially disadvantaged.

Rules and regulations:

1. Each student must submit a motivation (approximately 500 words) as to why they should be accepted into the programme. They should include details of their career aspirations and some examples of situations where they have demonstrated the knowledge and /or skills of someone who will succeed in the IT sector.

 
2. The motivation must be typed in a Word document and emailed to thabile@womeninit.co.za before the 30 November 2007.

3. The motivation must be accompanied by the following:

 
Details of the student, including full name, date of birth, e-mail address, contact telephone numbers (home, work and mobile), ID number;
Details of the students academic and professional history and experience;
Contact details of at least two referees should be provided - this includes the referee's name, position, title or relationship with the student.

4. Motivations will be evaluated against the selection criteria by the Women in IT panel. 6-8 students will be short-listed and will be required to attend an interview with the panel. The evaluations and interviews will be conducted during December 2007. Winners will be announced on the 15th December 2007. No feedback with regard to unsuccessful applications will be available.

 
5. Winners will receive a bursary fund of R20,000.00, this includes a psychometric test valued at R2,000.00. The funds will not be supplied to winners in cash, however these funds will be managed by a trustee on behalf of the winner.

 
7. Winners must attend a full day psychometric test which will be conducted by a professional psychologist who will offer them career advise and guidance. Winners must make themselves available for this test. The cost of the test is included in the bursary fund.

 
8. Winners must supply 2 written reports during 2008. These reports will be used for the Women in IT website and will be used as other publicity purposes. The first report is due on the 30th of April 2008 and the second report is due on the 1st November 2008.
